Infrastructure: Utilities and Fiber

Electrical Power: Culpeper County is served by three providers, depending on location – Dominion Virginia Power, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and the Town of Culpeper. Primary power for all three providers is supplied from the Dominion Virginia Power Lake Anna Nuclear Generating Facility located 45 miles southeast of Culpeper and tied to the mid-Atlantic grid. Power is distributed to Culpeper via recently modernized 150 kv line.

Natural Gas: Supplied and distributed by Columbia Gas of Virginia.

Water and Waste Water: Service provided by the Town of Culpeper in and around the Town environs. Each utility has a four million gallon per day capacity and are currently operating at approximately 50% of maximum capacity. Culpeper County provides water and sewer service at the Culpeper Airport, Culpeper Industrial Air Park and Clevenger’s Corner.

Solid Waste Disposal: Culpeper County owns and operates a transfer station that accepts all non-hazardous waste.

Fiber Optic Service: Culpeper has a robust and redundant fiber optic and telecommunication system delivered by underground cable or wireless via Virginia Broadband, LLC. Current fiber providers include:

Fire/Rescue/Police

Police protection is provided by 88 officers of the Sheriff’s office in the County, 31 police officers in the Town, and 8 state police assigned to the area. There are 150 County and Town volunteer firefighters. Emergency dialing E 911, is in effect.
